It’s no wonder we celebrate life’s major events and special moments with handcrafted objects. Imbued with meaning, our ‘best’ cutlery, inherited silverware and long-cherished table decorations express the care and respect we feel when we gather with our loved ones for joyful moments, from significant birthdays and anniversaries to wedding breakfasts and dinner parties. In the Fondazione Giorgio Cini’s beautiful refectory, a spectacular installation honours objects from around the world which help us perform the rituals of celebration and the art of hosting. Decorative centrepieces and candelabras feature alongside tableware and functional objects in a huge variety of materials, made by renowned maisons and independent artisans from India to Burkina Faso, Spain to Japan, Italy to South Korea. In the vestibule, artisans demonstrate the skills involved in l’art de la table.
