THE CURATOR

Homo Faber 2024 is curated by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, a private, international, non-profit Foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland, which champions contemporary craftspeople worldwide with the aim of promoting a more human, inclusive and sustainable future.

Established by Johann Rupert and Franco Cologni, guided by the belief that human hands will always possess the unique ability to create meaningful objects, the Foundation facilitates connections between creative artisans and a conscious clientele by enabling them to discover the creations and workshops of artisans and craft entities across the world.

The curation of Homo Faber 2024 has been made possible by collaborating with the Foundation’s network of like-minded organisations and its craft experts located in different countries across the world.

Imbued with history, culture and craftsmanship, Fondazione Giorgio Cini is a magnificent setting for Homo Faber Biennial. The historic buildings of the former monastery are located on San Giorgio Maggiore island in the heart of the Venice Lagoon.
The scenography will spotlight the different spaces created by talented Italian architects over centuries, from the Renaissance Cypress Cloister created by Andrea Buora to the Palladian Refectory with Paolo Veronese’s painting and panelling restored by Michele De Lucchi. The surrounding gardens and Gandini swimming pool will open especially for Homo Faber 2024, transformed into scenes where craft takes centre stage and visitors are immersed in a rich human narrative.
